I wish I knew the answer to that question. My 15 year old daughter just started cutting and I am very concerned about it. We live in San Antonio, TX and there are no support groups available here. If anyone knows of a place here that could help her I would love to hear about it. Thanks, concerned mom

I am 38 a female and I self harm both by cutting and burning. It is intermittent for me but it is very stress related and a coping mechanism. An escape if you may. Therapy is essential but nagging will not help it causes more heartache for the cutter. Finding another source to outlet the feelings is crucial. Also I am aware of 2 medications that curb the desire that is prescribed by psychiatrists. I hope this helps. E-mail me if you want to talk personally. Its scary for all parties involved and it is shameful and lonely. Hugs to you all for caring enough to ask instead of attack and persecute. Orlando, Florida

hi i am 19 and i use to cut myself and some time still do but it very hard habit to break. i dont know if this will will help but i will gave what i think will help. will see with my parent just yell at me when i did it never yell it will make him what to do it more. dont make him sit and talk to you let him came to you on his time but i would say get him a counselor/therapist. At first he will be made at you for make him go but if it the right person it will help him. it really hard to stop so even if he does not cut for months he my slip up and do it again so never get mad. if you ever what to talk i will lisen.
